Audio: The Exodus of Beta Yisrael – Our Lost Brothers in Africa

Passover is coming up. It’s the holiday of the Jews leaving Egypt to be brought into their homeland, Israel, to be a People to their G-d, and to be a light unto the nations. But we don’t have to go back thousands of years to read about an exodus. More recently in history, there once again was an exodus of Jews from the African east coast to the Land of Israel, the Beta Yisrael, the Jewish community of Ethiopia. How did some Jews get to the African continent and then get ‘lost’. How does this same community today have black skin, yet retain their Jewish facial features? Some believe that The Beta Israel may be the lost Israelite tribe of Dan.

Dr. Howard M. Lenhoff, author of the book, “Black Jews, Jews, and Other Heroes: How Grassroots Activism Led to the Rescue of the Ethiopian Jews “, talks to Tamar about the massive, amazing exodus that took place about 20 years ago with Operation Solomon, and all the hard activist work behind it to make it happen.
