France: Synagogue Defaced and Jewish Man Is Attacked

Three attackers defaced a synagogue in Nîmes on Sunday, then threw tear gas at a 78-year-old Jewish man, the local police said Monday. Word of the attack came as 300 people gathered Monday in front of the Strasbourg synagogue in eastern France to express solidarity with the victim of another anti-Semitic assault, on Friday in downtown Strasbourg. There, a Jewish man was repeatedly stabbed. Two suspects were charged Sunday, the police said.
