The Assistant Editor is an early career position, perfect for someone with a few years of experience in the field who already has strong editorial instincts about what makes a good story and how to bring it to life on the page, and is looking for an opportunity to deepen their skills. This person will assist senior editors in the production and publication of articles across genre, while also overseeing work that they have commissioned and brought to publication. Ideally, they are a generalist, as comfortable editing short news and analysis pieces as they are conversations or reviews. They will play a role in shaping our coverage, and should plan to be an active participant in pitch meetings.
The compensation for this position is $70,000, with a competitive benefits package. The position is remote, with a preference for candidates based in New York City. This is a position covered under the Writers Guild of America, East Collective Bargaining Agreement.
