Named one of the top ten global music picks by NPR, A-WA is Yemenite folk singing meets electronic dance music. Three sisters from a remote Yemenite Jewish community in Southern Israel join their collective voice to the sparkling dance floor grooves of Balkan Beat Box’s Tomer Yosef. A-WA’s soon-to-be-released debut album reworks vintage Yemeni–Arabic women’s songs, with a music video that has hip-hopped over musical, geographical and social barriers to rack up over two million views. Expect scintillating harmonies, influenced by a range of eclectic sources from traditional songs to reggae, hip-hop, jazz, Egyptian film music and the Andrews Sisters.

Presented by the Consulate General of Israel to the Pacific Northwest, JIMENA and the JCCSF
