“Almost Chanukah” Fair
Join Be’chol Lashon in celebrating the miracle of the festival of lights by giving Chanukah gifts that help create a miracle for Jewish communities around the world. For Chanukah 2012, we are featuring traditional Abayudaya kippot as well as unique necklaces hand-crafted by local women who turn recycled magazine beads into simple and chic one-of-a-kind necklaces. Each bead is hand-cut, rolled and varnished and then strung on a cord and finished with a clasp. The beaders select complimentary accent beads to embellish each piece. This sustainable grassroots business, comprised of Ugandan women of Jewish, Muslim and Christian beliefs, is a beacon of peace and hope; providing income and benefiting local community health services—supplying clean water, mosquito nets, HIV/AIDS prevention and helping to fund the construction of the new Tobin Health Center. Be’chol Lashon also assisted the Abayudaya community to produce a music album titled, Sing for Joy, featuring traditional Jewish music with uniquely African rhythms. Add a festive touch to your holiday table with a challah cover made by the Sefwi Wiawso Jewish community in Ghana. The Hebrew word “Shabbat” is embroidered in the center of each beautiful Challah cover fashioned from striking Ghanian fabrics. Give a unique holiday gift and help Be’chol Lashon make sure these isolated African Jewish communities are getting the support and resources they need.
