The Minorities Stand Up

The Minorities Stand Up

Watch Edwin Li & Samson Koletkar blast away at various stereotypes that portray the minorities as goofballs in the mainstream media and entertainment. They take shots at the absurdities that they experience in America as they try to voice the opinions and views of the minorities through humor while not shying away from highlighting the absurdities of their own cultures.

Edwin Li began working as a comedian at the age of 16, barreling through short open mike sets and hanging out in the wings of San Francisco’s Punch Line Comedy Club, picking the brains of any funnyman who would talk shop. His earnestness and shameless curiosity have made him a favorite with audiences of all persuasions. His rambunctious sets are a portrait of the wild, untamed energy of a Chinese American young man.

Edwin has performed at SF SketchFest, Las Vegas Comedy Festival, Asian Week, and he’s a regular at all the A List clubs in the Bay Area. He has also been featured in the independent films Chinese Connection, Slap Stick and Come Back To Me.

Samson Koletkar was born and raised in Mumbai and moved to San Francisco to work in IT. From his beginnings as an immigrant Indian Jewish guy with zero experience with American standup, Samson brings a refreshingly new approach to cerebral, witty, thought-provoking clean humour with a global perspective. Driven by personal trials and tribulations, his socially aware comedy highlights religious, political, and social hypocrisies and issues, and day-to-day absurdities of human nature.

He is the creator of Comedy Off Broadway Oakland, The Minorities Stand Up and Mahatma Moses Comedy Tour, & is a featured performer on Funatical Comedy Tour and Make Chai Not War. He won the 2010 Asian American Theater Company Comedy Competition, has performed in India, Canada and all over U.S. & featured on Asian Jewish Life Magazine, Indian Express, CBS & NPR.
